9th October 2006

It was cup week for Halas Hawks in the Stourbridge Youth League, and as often happens in the early stages of the cup there were some high scores.

The U7s East led the way with a 5-0 win over Kewford East. A good all round performance saw goals from Michael Ly (2), Jake Gilson, Mark Slater and man of the match, Nick Claytron-Phillips. Kewfords goalkeeper deserves mention for a string of excellent saves.

The U7s West entertained Penn Colts and got off to a flying start with a Cameron Keenan goal. Penn equalised, but Halas went on to win the game with a Matthew Evans goal.

The U8s Dynamos travelled to Kewford West where a hat trick from James Williams led them to a 5-1 win. Alex Gardener and player of the match, Constance Scofield, also got on the score sheet.

The U10s North were well worth their 6-1 win against Netherton Colts West with Dan Brookes and man of the match, Harry Wootton getting two each. The others came from Ben Jennings and Sam Oakley.

The U10s East literally went to town against Coseley Town, scoring sixteen goals without reply. The lads put on an excellent display of passing and movement which saw goals from Ryan Davies (4), Reiss Aston (4), Reece Marks (3), Josh Ezewele (2), Jon Rizzo, Alex Smith and Louis Ezewele. Man of the match went to Reece Marks who played confidently throughout and had a hand in most of the goals.

The U12s were in South Staffs Cup action against Trysull Tigers West. A Kieron Mickelduff goal ensured a 1-1 draw after extra time but Hawks lost on penalties.

In the girls cup, the U10s won 6-1 against Gornal with Mollie Duroe continuing her tremendous goal-scoring form with four strikes. Also on target was Caris Maguire and Paige Dudley.

Both U12s teams met top of the table opposition and went down by the same 9-0 scoreline against Angels and Withymoor.

The U14s West, last years cup winners, commenced their defence of the trophy with a comfortable 6-1 win over West Hagley. Lil Crawshaw gave them an early lead and the other goals came from rebekah Trevis-Smith (2), Shanice Mayers, Katie Wilkes and Stephanie Wem.

The U14s East continued their unbeaten run with an 11-0 win over Withymoor East. Goalscorers were Charlotte Rowbottom (3), Kirsty Houston (3), Olivia Emerson, Gaby Walley, Lydia Bradley, Catherine Barrett and goalkeeper Elizabeth Cullwick. This team have now played 5 games this season, scoring 36 and conceding none.
